Tony had to get the car serviced so we had a couple of nights there. It has a wonderful Heritage Precinct. They talk about the ‘One Mile Jetty’ But in fact it’s a lot less than that because vandals burn it down part way along the jetty. But it was fun to go out as far as you can on the Coffee Pot train. I looooove trains of any sort. There is the shortest lighthouse I have ever seen, only a few metres high, a long boat off the Kormoran and the light house keepers cottage restored and full of wonderful bits and pieces and quite a bit of info in their Shearers Hall of Fame. The old water tower has been turned into a lookout and you see clearly the mouth of the Gascoyne River.
The whole town is under the gaze of the old OTC dish that was built in conjunction with NASA in 1966 but not used today.
BUT……… the best thing about Carnarvon is the wonderful fresh (and cheap!!!!) fruit, veg and eggs you can buy here. You can go out to the plantations and buy direct from the growers.
