Broken Hill

Love Broken Hill – just so much to see here. Lots of mines, art galleries and some buildings that have seen lots of wealth in the town. She is an old girl that is starting to fade but you don’t have to wander far to know what it would have been like in it’s hey day. 29 pubs in the main street and no shrinking violets are they. They have wonderful Victorian verandahs and fantastic facades.

Broken Hill to me is the hilly terrain, the wonderful buildings and the houses made of tin. Many of then have brick facades to the street but the rest of the house is tin. They seem to down play all this but I have no idea why – I just love the character of them. There are wonderful art galleries here too and museums, a desert park and a great train museum – all well worth a visit.

This time we didn’t go out to Silverton but no visit here is complete with a look at a place where you can just visit and wonder at the tenacity of those who have gone before. There is a wonderful museum, interesting old buildings and of course the pub with the Mad Max car out the front. Lots of movies are made out in this part of the world and it’s easy to see why.
