Albany

What a coast line!!!! Drove all around the coast here and there are the most wonderful views. I thought Albany was right on the ocean but in fact it is on Princess Royal Harbour that in fact is entered off King George Sound. There are picture perfect views out to islands not far off shore.

I also thought the wind never stopped blowing - wrong again!!!

You can see over the port and right around the sound. Up on the cliff top we went to see the Princess Royal Fortress, built in 1893, to cover our western coast. Never a shot was fired but what’s left is interesting – well worth a visit. From here you can climb up the 'oh so many' steps to the war memorial.

We also headed off to Whale World. I wondered how good it would be but make sure you put it on your list if you happen by. We spent several hours there. We were so pleased we went on the tour with a great bloke who certainly ‘knew his stuff’. He took us around and explained the whole process, from getting a whale to the final stages of the processing.

You can go all over a real whale chaser and see how they lived in very sparse circumstances and wander around the station. The previous owners donated the whole area to the Jaycees who have gone on to make it a great place to show off our history. You can see how hard those at the station worked, from 4 30 am till well often after dark 7 days a week for 9 months a year and the stench must have been something awful.

There are amazing skeletons and a hut that housed Mum, dad and 8 kids!!!! You can dodge the gory stuff if you want to and the movies they show are really interesting – especially the 3D one.
Near here you can also go and look at "The Gap' and "The Bridge". The wind gusts through this area as it is straight onto the ocean but they are both work a look as they are both natural areas.
